Drapery.

A window treatment made from fabric panels that can be drawn open or closed over the window.

Side Panels.

Fabric panels that do not open or close but hang at the side of the windows that are decorative only.

Valance.

A top treatment used to cover the top of the window, add height to a room or hide drapery hardware.

Box pleats.

Deep, inverted tailored pleats that are flat to create a clean, sleek, classic look.

Cornice Box.

An upholstered, wooden box with a padded base mounted above the window to hide drapery hardware.

Finial.

A decorative end cap attached to a drapery rod made of wood, glass or metal.

Kick-pleated valances.

Usually on a box pleat valance made with a contrast fabric and spaced further apart.

Lining.

The fabric used as a backing for window treatments to protect from sun damage, add insulation or room darkening qualities.

Projection.

The distance from the wall to the front of the window treatment,

Repeat.

The size of a pattern and how often the pattern is duplicated. A full pattern is one repeat.

Trim.

Decorative cording, fringe, tassels or beads added to window treatments to add that “wow” factor.

Pinch pleats.

Folds of fabric sewn to create a decorative heading with a fullness of 2.5 to 3 times the finished width of the drapery.

Wave drapery.

A heading not sewn with fullness but soft folds of fabric to create a wave look.
